Work On Purpose How To Connect Who You Are With What You Do eBook Sheri Nasim
Although I am technically a Baby Boomer, my values and influences are more closely aligned with the Silent Generation (born 1922 – 1945). As an African American male raised in Chicago during the 1950’s and 60’s, I was taught to respect authority, conform to society, and value duty over fun. I served my country during the Vietnam War while black Americans were being beaten and brutalized for demanding their civil rights. This book has helped me reflect on my past, including the many positions I’ve held during my career. I’ve always risen to leadership positions, yet often found myself conforming due to respect for authority. Well, no more. Today, I stand at a crossroads, and this book has helped me become very clear about who I am and what I need to be a complete contributor in my work. I am no longer willing to settle for a paycheck and look the other way while employees are treated like an expense rather than an investment. No longer am I willing to settle. It is my time to bring my full, honorable self to work.
This book gave me an easy to follow method to define who I am and the basic elements of what I need from my next employment opportunity. After answering the questions in the book, I am clear that I want a position that allows me to be 1) people centered, 2) value added, 3) service sensitive, and 4) profit-based.
Now, I have guidelines that I am unwilling to compromise. They empower me to define myself rather than be defined by the job I do. If you are just starting on a career path, or going through a career change, this book guides you to tap into what really drives you and gives you purpose. Take the time to answer the questions. Do the deep dive into what you really need to be fulfilled as a contributor before you compromise and conform.

Work On Purpose How To Connect Who You Are With What You Do eBook Sheri Nasim Reviews
The book inspires and guides you to find and follow your inner purpose.
What a great great book! It is a must-read for everyone regardless of the industry you work in.
Sheri's excellent work encourages essential critical reflection on our path to becoming our authentic self, aware of the powerful interconnections of our Mind, Heart, Strength, and Soul... the essence of our person and purposes in this life and the next.
Sheri really gets to the core of why we work and why it matters. This is a wonderful resource for anyone that is looking to find purpose and meaning in what they do. I can't recommend it enough.
One of my most valued resources is time, so I was delighted to read this profound yet compact story. This is one of those books that if understood and undertaken will change your life.
This is a succinct, easy-to-follow guidebook that reminded me to actively choose how I spend my time. It challenged me to think about the impact I want to leave behind, and look back on my life with pride rather than just having survived. Do I still add value to the committees I serve on? Do I have a plan for the day? Can I do something better with my free time?
I also like the idea of tapping into my yearnings - the things that I love to do that energize me. As a CEO, I am reminded that every employee has yearnings of their own. I would like to help them balance their workload to make room for doing what they are passionate about.
Whether you are just starting your career, feel there is something missing in your professional life, or just want to make small changes to make sure you're investing your time on what matters most, this book is a great resource.
What I liked about Sheri's book is how she wove together her story with a clear, practical way to understand your purpose and then build a plan to work on it. If you are ready to dive in and develop a purpose-full plan, then this book will get you there. This concise way is a solid, practical way, and you can see it in unfold in Sheri's own experiences and story. This book will not take long to read. However, if you take the time to do the work suggested, you may change your lifetime of work.
